SUBSTANCES

Thyroxine

Goiter is often caused by or results in under-secretion of Thyroxine.

Iodine

Deficiency in iodine can cause goiter (due to iodine being an essential component of thyroid hormones)

Selenium

Helps to prevent goiter

Vitamin A

Deficiency in vitamin A increases the risk of goiter; supplemental vitamin A may alleviate goiter by increasing the effectiveness of iodine.

FOODS & HERBS

Kelp

May alleviate goiter if goiter is due to iodine deficiency

Parsley

May help alleviate symptoms of goiter

Radish

SUPPLEMENTS

AllerAid II

Alleviates hypothyroidism; contains good amount of kelp, iodine and selenium.

L-Tyrosine

500 ~ 1,000 mg daily may alleviate hypothyroidism by stimulating the thyroid gland; not recommended for hyperthyroidism patients.

Gugulipid

Helps stimulate the production of thyroid hormones by the thyroid gland. May enhance the uptake of iodine into the thyroid.
