Dr. Hiromi Shinya The Developer of Flexible Fiberoptic Scope For Colonoscopy and Pioneer of CafeColon
First came to America in 1963 after completing his medical studies at Juntendo University in Tokyo in 1960. He wanted to explore new technical medical innovations. He arrived at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York and completed a surgical residency. In 1967, during his residency, he became interested in fiberoptic endoscoy. he then went on to develop the technique of colonoscopy using a flexible fiberoptic scope. This also enabled him to develop a technique for removing colonic polyps (1969). Up to that time major abdominal surgery was being performed to remove these polyps
Since that time, Dr Shinya has performed over 300,000 endoscopic procedures in Japan and the U.S. Over the course of time, he became aware that the stomach and intestinal phases of digestion could predict a patient's general health condition. He could also predict which of our patients might suffer from neoplastic or degenerative diseases. Dr Shinya became confident that by maintaining proper diet, lifestyle, and elimination habits we could influence a patient's health and longevity.
Patients suffering from degenerative, inflammatory and neoplastic disorders are likely to have intestinal dysfunction. These patients undoubtedly have a very poor intestinal phase of digestion. In 1975, the McGovern report demonstrated the serious relationship between diet and disease. The government recognized that nutritional improvements in the diet would lead to prevention of disease and possibly be helpful in its treatment. In Japan, especially educating the population to proper diet and elimination habits would be of great importance.
With regard to elimination habits and the protection of the intestinal milieu, coffee enemas have proved to be of great benefit. 800-1200 cc of coffee enemas improves constipation and prevents fecal impaction. The enema cleans out the colon effectively. This can be done once a day (for example, in the evening after dinner). It is a simple and safe procedure. Dr Shinya recommends this method over simple laxatives since it is more effective. People with poor bowel habits over time, suffer from bloating, headaches, dizziness and fatigue.
The imbalance in the gut leads to the production of large amounts of intestinal gases including hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and methane. This eventually leads to a degradation of intestinal function. It also produces free radicals and it takes a lot of energy to detoxify and neutralize these products. Feces contain a large amount of toxins and waste products and should be eliminated regularly within 12-23 hours.
Dr Shinya has recently published six books on health and nutrition including coffee enema method, in Japan. They have become best sellers (more than million copies have been sold in Japan alone! -- editor) and are widely read and accepted. Currently, these books are being translated into English and other languages.
