Prabhat Samgiita: Songs of the New Dawn

Prohbat Samgiita is a new trend in the world of music. The compositions are known as ' Songs of the New Dawn'. in Sanskrit Prahhat means 'dawn' and Samgiita is 'the totality of song, instrumental music and dance'. The melodies and lyrics were composed by Probhat Rainjan Sarkar (1921 - 1990). The songs cover a wide variety of devotional, spiritual, inspirational and humanitarian themes.

P. R. Sarkar is remembered not only for his songs, but as a great spiritual master, philosopher and social reformer and as the founder of Ananda Marga, a global movement dedicated to slef realization and service to all...

Therapeutic Effects of Prabhat Samgiita

Baba spoke about the "physico-psychic effects" of Prabha'ta Sam'giita on patients suffering from different diseases.

The following types of diseases can be cured by listening to Prabha’ta Sam’giita:

  • Epilespy
  • Gout
  • Hysteria
  • Melancholia

A person overshocked with grief can be cured by singing and listening to Prabha’ta Sam’giita.

A person lying in coma should be made to listen to a song of deeply devotional nature. Thereby his or her nerve fibres will get vibrated and he or she can regain his or her vital energy.

The following types of diseases can be cured by collective Prabha’ta Sam’giita singing.

  • A person, who, while leaving bed in the morning, feels pain in the region between the end of the upper portion of the arm and the point where the shoulder starts, should participate in the collective singing of Prabha’ta Sam’giita.

  • A person suffering from seminal weakness should participate in the collective singing of at least 2 or 3 songs on Tandava (see Shiva Songs) dance at a time.

  • A person losing hair rapidly should participate in the collective singing of a song based on Raga Desh.

O clouds! Come near!
We want water, still more water!

The green seedlings of paddy are withering in the scorching heat of the sun.
There is not a drop of water, not a single drop.

The orange blossoms are not yet filled with nectar, the custard apple blossoms
have not yet become fruits.
The pomelo flowers are not intoxicated with fragrance; from this cruel drought we want relief.

The kadamba blossoms have all dropped off, the tuberose flowers cannot bloom.
In this fiery heat the earth is scorched.
Where shall we find the freshness of rain?

You are the moonlight in the tiny glowworm.
So I have fallen in love with you. Radiating divine effulgence and illuminating entities all around, you dispel darkness within and without.

When there was Cimmerian darkness all over and the universe was nonexistent, when heaps of static blackness was used to be ejected, constantly, into the gloom of nothingness, you applied the soothing balm of your divine glow.

Since then even to this day you have been pouring sweet nectar of your heart constantly. When there was nothing in
the universe in time immemorial, nothing like life, death, day or night were existing, Only you O Lord, the timeless entity, existed. You continue to exist and move in an eternal flow.

So I have fallen in love with you. Radiating divine effulgence and illuminating entities all around, you dispel darkness within and without.

O Lord, take Your position on the throne of my heart.
The buds of the nine plexii (meditation centers) are blooming, continue enjoying their fragrance.

You are present everywhere in the world,
in the forests, caves and in sky.
I also exist in Your physical arena.
Please do not forget this small companion of Yours.

Failure and progress both are You.

I come and go but You are the ultimate desideratum. I climb and fall, You keep on observing me.
May the magnanimity of Your kind eyes continue.

On the arrival of spring, the earth is harnessed with new decorations.
The living world is filled with the sweet flow of love and beauty.

O creator, please come before of me,
opening my eyes and smiling sweetly.
Appear before us with an evercharming face.

You only know Your divine play.
O Lord of Lords,

You are the embodiment of love and affection. But why do You make my heart cry out for You?

O shameless one,
please come into my shy heart.
