Extra Virgin Perilla Oil (No More in Stock)

The Best Vegetarian Source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

Perilla Oil

Perilla oil is a light, non-greasy oil with delicate and fresh undertones of its characteristic perilla. It is derived from the seeds of the Perilla frutescens plant and producedby cold-pressing and filterd without solvents or additives.

g’farm Perilla oil contains 60% omega-3 (alpha-linolenic acid) and 4.3 times more omega-3 than omega-6, surpassing flaxseed oil. It is arguably a safer alternative to fish oils that may come from contaminated waters.

Perilla is called zisu (紫苏 or紫蘇) in Chinese and Shiso in Japanese. It is traditionally used in Chinese medicine, and has been shown to stimulate interferon activity and thus, the body's immune system. It is used to ease the symptoms of the common cold. -- Wikipedia.

The optimal dosage has yet to establish. A typical dose for those concerned about cardiovascular disease, cancer, or inflammatory bowel diseases such as colitis “is about 6 grams daily, in divided doses with meals.” 6 grams of Perilla oil provide some 3.3 grams of ALA.

Caution: please be aware that the ALA in perilla oil (just like in flaxseed oil) may interact with aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), ginkgo, garlic, and other herbs. The symptoms of such an interaction may include increased bruising and nosebleeds. Those taking warfarin or other blood thinners, or those soon to undergo surgery, should exercise extra caution with perilla, which may thin the blood.
